(Lyn's note: Lew Jenkin's obituary in last week's Letters. Our condolences to Lew's family. He was a remarkable guy.)
I was aghast to see Gene Orrico, a current Carefree Council member who is running for reelection, and Glenn Miller, a past Council member and a current candidate for the Council, sitting at a Carefree restaurant, eating elbow to elbow and laughing. At this time, all restaurant dining, both inside and on patios, is against the law statewide by Gubernatorial Decree.
Do these two have no concern about potentially spreading the Covid 19 virus during a public shut down meant to mitigate that? Do they think they are above the law and entitled to special privileges just because they are politicians?
This showed nothing short of arrogant disregard for both the law and for our citizens on the part of Gene Orrico and Glenn Miller. Remember this when the ballots arrive in your mailbox this summer.

As a retired health care professional I respect and practice social distancing, commend our community businesses for their compliance, and support those local businesses which have mechanisms in place to facilitate everyone's safety. Today, I was disturbed by my experience at a local restaurant. The restaurant had clearly indicated entrance and exits, social distancing markers on the floors, etc. However, there were four barstools at the take out counter.
Patrons stood on the social distancing markers. Glen Miller, Carefree Council candidate sat at the counter barstool waving a menu stating "what am I going to order today ". Carefree Councilman Gene Orrico openly joked about social distancing and was too close for comfort. I maintained my distance and when placing my order questioned the restaurant staff regarding patrons being allowed to sit at the counter. We have recently lost a local friend to Covid 19, I understand the economic pressures but I also feel the situation experienced today was in defiance of public safety.

Love the road to Bartlett.
Louise Short
Very nice! Gee I remember when that road to the lake was a one lane wagon trail! Used to shake anything apart getting in and back out. I had a boat and used to go there water skiing and camping .. lots of memories!

(Lyn's note: This is John's comment on the Bartlett Lake video from last week. We remember when it was a 2 lane dirt road all the way from Cave Creek Rd. to the lake. We used to go swimming in the lake with our dogs and 4 wheeling on the Ranger Access Roads around there in the '88 Suburban. We beat that poor 'Burb within an inch of its life, but we had a lot of fun!)
