Dennis Randolph, the Code Enforcement Officer, explained the required updates to the 2022 Multi Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, which rescinds the 2015 Hazard Mitigation Plan.  It is quite extensive and includes updated community development trends for the Town of Carefree, the assessment of natural hazards that impact the Town of Carefree, updated Town of Carefree mitigation strategy, completed comprehensive risk assessment to include community vulnerability, and the completed two rounds of public outreach.
 
 
Gary Neiss explained that every five years, the County goes through this process.  Every community within the metropolitan area is part of it.  This has gone on for the past year.  Not much has changed in Carefree, so there are not any significant changes.  Mayor Les Peterson noted that this is put together by the municipalities and Indian Tribes within Maricopa County.  All of them sign it.  It is a collective effort.
 
 
Vice Mayor John Crane asked if this would incur any costs, such as purchasing new hardware for the fire department.  Mr. Neiss said there are no costs for new hardware, but there is a required annual fee based on per capita population associated with it.

 
 
Councilman Stephen Hatcher asked if it is strictly related to the fire department.  Mr. Randolph replied that it is for the entire town, and deals with the partnership between the citizens and the government.  Mr. Hatcher was under the impression that it was a fire issue and how to evacuate the town.  Mr. Neiss explained that it deals with multiple dimensions, be it a natural disaster or a man made event.  It includes many different scenarios and is a regional plan to deal with those respective emergencies.  There is some sensitive information and some secure resources there to protect members of the public while they are evacuating. 

 
 
The motion to participate in this plan for the next 5 years and to sign the appropriate contract was unanimously approved.
