Call for Volunteers
The Town of Carefree is instituting an Ambassador Program and we need your help.
This program is designed to get residents involved in our community to help in promoting our businesses, areas of interest and generating excitement in our Town.
Our Ambassadors will act like docents walking around town and interfacing with visitors and residents alike. They will be knowledgeable about our stores, restaurants and galleries. They will also have a deep knowledge of our history and key points of interest: the desert gardens, North America’s tallest sundial, the splash pad and more.
Our Ambassadors will be empowered to answer questions about our community and county with pride and to point out all the treasures that we have right here in our own backyard.
Volunteers will be given a comprehensive visitor ‘survival guide’; a reference folder filled with maps, various attractions, marketing materials and a quick reference guide of customer service tips, Carefree trivia, history and more.
We will be stationed in the Town’s new visitor center, adjacent to the Pavilion stage, and will be easily identified by our Ambassador shirts and hats. This will not only be fun but it will help our Town and its businesses.
We only have room for 10 volunteers to start out so, you are interested please contact: cherylkroyer@carefree.org to reserve your place.

Hi, Lyn,
Just wondering what is the latest on when the arbitration for the solution issue for Carefree residents who have Cave Creek Water? If I remember correctly it was changed from July to October but I have not heard anything lately about it. I certainly wish it would be resolved ASAP.
Mary Kay Thurston
(Lyn's note: The arbitration is going on now, so the Town can't discuss it at this point.)
Thanks, Lyn. I appreciate the update.
Blessings,
Mary Kay
Lyn:
Undoubtedly you have seen anti-Carefree John Traynor's rant. I saw the letter in the Sonoran News, wasn't able to fully understand the message. It was, however, interesting to read other letters, one of which explained that the Town of Cave Creek had overpaid for its water company.
The purpose of this letter is to ask a simple question raised in the letter to the Sonoran News. Your Carefree Truth mailing list obviously has a greater reach than my few contacts.
The letter states, " The rest of the Carefree Water Company's board is made up of the other town council members, including those council members who will personally benefit from this water transition."
But the letter does not elaborate on exactly how the Water Company's Board (Mayor and Town Council) will personally benefit from the water transition. The Board members are not paid for their time and effort, either as Board members or as members of the Carefree Town Council. Many expend amounts, big and small, for supplies, and gas to get around, few requesting reimbursement unless it is a significant amount. Evidence of few requests for reimbursement can easily be found in the Town's check register published with the monthly financial reports. For the two years I served as a member of the Carefree Town Council, to the best of my memory, I only once requested reimbursement and that was when I drove from Carefree to Tucson for a meeting of the League of Cities and Towns. To further reduce mileage, two Council Members traveled together. I did not keep any records of the amounts of copy paper, printer cartridges and other office supplies that I used in the two years, but many times there were hundreds of pages of documents that I needed to print.
Perhaps you can ask Carefree's Future Matters to outline how board members can "personally benefit" from their volunteer duties on both organizations. The allegations of conflict or personal gain without facts is scurrilous.
From a Bing search I found the following:
personal
[ˈpərs(ə)n(ə)l]
ADJECTIVE
1. of, affecting, or belonging to a particular person rather than to anyone else.
It is very clear to me that, when using that definition, John Traynor has clearly implied that all seven of the water company’s board have been libeled, getting something that no one else gets. He does not, in any way, indicate that any others will benefit. I guess that getting a good source of clean drinking water is a “personal benefit”. I am in the same position as are over 500 accounts.
His allegation is still bad through implication of personal benefit, one that could be shared by many others. I am not an attorney, but have to ask when implied allegations without facts to support them are bordering on libel.
Arthur Gimson
(Lyn's note: Back when Carefree purchased their water company (the one that services John Traynor), all but one of the Council members were customers and had direct positive benefits. Should they have been unable to vote? As always, John Traynor is negative and ridiculous. He never has anything positive to say or ideas to make things better. The reality is it’s his right to be wrong.)
