MCSO Car Burglaries Alert
Maricopa County Sherriff’s Office (MCSO) has advised there have been eight car burglaries over the past few days in the area of Mule Train and Cave Creek Roads. Please remember to always keep your vehicles and property secured, with valuables out of sight.
If you witnessed any suspicious behavior in the area, or have surveillance video that may be helpful to investigators, please contact Detective Ward at 602-876-7330 orT_ward@mcso.maricopa.gov.
(Lyn's note: Councilman Vince D'Aliesio and his partner James do a sports radio show. They broadcast from the Black Mountain Cafe and Coffee Shop last Saturday morning, and Herbert videoed it for them. The Coffee Shop is currently an exclusive Carefree show sponsor, but they'd love to promote other businesses in Carefree on their radio show through sponsorship if anyone else is interested. Below is the video of their radio show. They interviewed Mayor Peterson, and talked a good bit about Carefree. It's quite interesting and fun.)

Hi Lyn. I was at he Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation(MCLEF) meeting last night (last Wednesday) and I was asked if we had any pearls being donated this year. I said I didn't know but would find out. They have been very well received in the past and have been sold at silent auction.
The picture is Officer Townsen, the Salt River Officer killed in the line-of-duty by a kid texting several weeks ago. He was 25. We donated $35,000.00 to his son two weeks ago at a ceremony honoring him. By the time he is 18 that $35,000 will have grown to a substantial sum and help him with a college education.

Since 1995 we've raised over $74 Million for children and families who have lost a Marine or Fed Law Enforcement Officer in the line-of-duty... Take a look at this: https://youtu.be/SRVCeXCRDX4 It's why we do what we do!
We have three Medal Of Honor recipients confirmed this year. Thursday May 2nd we meet at the Cave Creek American Legion. We do "TAPS" and the Chaplain says a prayer. Then we relax, sign autographs and enjoy a great evening. Friday May 3rd, 7:30 AM check-in and 9 AM tee off at Grayhawk Golf Course, and an awards & auction luncheon at 2:00.
Thanks again for your help and support, you're the best!
Thanks Lyn!

Hi Lyn,
Interesting article I thought might interest you after seeing Herb's latest photos:

Cute, maybe, but vile.

What do you think about the news of the new hotel? Really exciting things.

Allow me to respond to Lois Treacy’s comment about “why people are jumping up and down for this small hotel.”
I, for one, am extremely happy; the main reason being “the economic benefits”. During the 18 to 24 month construction period there will be a higher level of activity. I would venture to guess that at least one worker will buy gas at the Shell station. I would guess that another may buy something from Bashas’ at the Carefree Market Place. Perhaps another who has never seen downtown Carefree in the past will come back with his family to have breakfast at the Black Mountain Coffee Shop and another will return to take his wife and family to Mother’s Day brunch at Venues. I could go on and on. The Town will also obtain tax revenues during the construction period.
But the biggest, brightest, and best economic benefits will be the ongoing revenue that will be generated by the bed tax imposed on the future guests, not just for one night, or one weekend, but for 365 days per year for the foreseeable future. If you enjoy the benefits of living in a property tax-free municipality, you will be grateful for the additional revenue that will be generated.
The hospitality industry is an ultra-clean business. It creates employment across all socio-economic levels. Their take-home pay stays in the area. The guests do not over-burden the community’s schools, law enforcement, and other services. The Town will not increase its staffing. Good clean dollars, earned somewhere else, will be brought to town. History has provided many examples of how countries, states, cities and towns have thrived on the benefits of the hospitality industry and the tourism that is created. Back in 2011, the UK reported that the Royal Family generated 500 million UK pounds, PER YEAR, from tourism. Sadly, Paris will suffer from a decrease in tourism, which will rebound after the Notre Dame Cathedral is rebuilt. While it is impossible to compare the Town of Carefree to the UK or France, the underlying economic principles remain the same.
I do not see many people jumping up and down as they drive by a vacant parcel of land with unattractive non-maintained desert vegetation.
