To join Lew Jenkins and his family on his 100th birthday, was a treat and a privilege. We are lucky to know Lew and we are all fortunate to have Lew and his family as neighbors.
For those who may not be aware, Lew is the quintessential American of The Greatest Generation. Lew’s parents were Welch immigrants coming to America through Ellis Island. He is a World War II vet, fighting with General George Patton at The Battle of the Bulge. Lew then pursued a banking career culminating as the President of the American Bankers Association, meeting and working with Presidents Carter and Reagan. Lew is a great American and simply a great guy. I’m honored to know him.
Best regards,
John Crane

Foothills Food Bank seeks volunteer van drivers
Foothills Food Bank seeks volunteer drivers to conduct food pick-ups at local stores (Fry's, Safeway, Sprouts, Trader Joe's and others). Many food bank volunteers vacation in the summer, which creates a critical need for back-up drivers.
Volunteers must be able to drive a van and be able to lift at least 40 pounds. This commitment is for approximately two hours per day, one to two days per week between the hours of 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM with an alternate shift on Monday and Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center is located in Cave Creek where all deliveries take place.
For more information or if you are interested in volunteering as a driver, contact Tom Kilwein at 480-747-7250.
G5 is being presented at: http://the 5gsummit.com/event (google on the internet) until 9/1/19. One of today's (8/29) speakers is Kevin Mottus. He is knowledgeable on the subject and a good speaker. I'd like to bring this to the attention of our local city council members. Do you have an e-mail address for the council members or perhaps town manager?
I'm getting quite the education on the dangers of 5G or wireless in general. Perhaps fiber optics is the way to go to power our gadgets. Anyway, it wouldn't hurt for us to reconsider if we should or should not allow these 5G towers throughout our little town.
Thank you, Lyn. I sure enjoy your newsletters! You're the best!

Darlene, consider your email passed along. Gary is the Administrator.
Thanks for the nice compliments. I'm glad you enjoy Carefree Truth.

Hi Darlene,
Please note that the Town can not prohibit wireless technology. In accordance with the federal telecommunications act we must allow this infrastructure into local communities. Furthermore, we can not regulate based upon health concerns as the FCC has jurisdiction over and regulates radio frequencies. The state of Arizona also preempted local authority by requiring local communities to allow for wireless technologies in their rights of way and restricting fees local communities can charge. On the other side of the ledger many residents and businesses now look for access to new quicker technology to communicate and share information.
Gary
Gary,
Such a fast response. Proof we don't need 5G. And you're working after hours! Kidding aside, thank you, and to Lyn, too. I appreciate this information. While feeling deflated, but understanding, I will try to see the other side of the ledger (and try not to bang my head on it).
Best regards,
Darlene
P.S. I think I tell everyone else this, but maybe you should know. You, your staff and council members run this little town so well. You all do such excellent work. We residents are indeed lucky! Know that you are very much appreciated.
Thank you for your very kind words! I showed my kids a rotary phone a few years ago. They were very confused and horrified. They could not understand that one could not text, could only speak, why it had a cord and what was with the confusing dial. Technology!
