I congratulate the Mayor and Council on the steps to see Gary Neiss remains in Carefree. As someone who benefited greatly from Gary’s expertise I am delighted for Gary and Carefree.

Hi Lyn, Thank you for continuing to serve our community with your detailed newsletters. John Nimsky's letter is spot on. I hope it is forwarded to the developer. Merry Christmas!

Hi Lyn,
I have some comments about Christmas in Carefree this year. I found it terribly disappointing and said so to one of the town council members. This used to be listed as one of the top ten things to do in the entire Phoenix Metro Valley and the last two years have been awful, particularly this year. The changes that were made from our beloved festival last year were not to its benefit, and even worse this year. There were half the vendors and food trucks, and as the woman mentioned in her letter to you below, no snow, slide, nor parade. On top of it all, the entertainment was just about nil outside of the singer on Saturday night (can't recall her name off the top of my head but I know she used to play at the Speakeasy. Alice? April?). I didn't see the Cactus Shadows jazz band on Friday night but did get to catch some of the Rock the District kids and when I saw them, they weren't even playing any Christmas or holiday songs. One band was yelling throughout their set in punk rock form, which was terrible, and I'm a supporter and advocate of Rock the District. There used to be entertainment on stage throughout the entire festival, morning, afternoon, and evening and most of the acts and shows filled the amphitheater and helped everyone get into the holiday spirit. This was a major disappointment this year.
I miss the magic of the festival of its first 9 years and hope it comes back. Through the grapevine (small town, you know?) I heard that the festival is considered second to the Pumpkin Festival now and that the Christmas Festival is looked at as more of a "thank you" to the citizens of Carefree and Cave Creek. What???!!! This is nonsense.
Also, changing the name from The Carefree Christmas Festival to Christmas in Carefree was a mistake. "Christmas in Carefree" does not connotate anything, let alone a whimsical Christmas Festival. "The Carefree Christmas Festival"
connotates a true festival, a destination. It was well established during its nine years, after the first couple of years as it was growing. I also heard that they're considering not even having the festival next year. This will be a major disappointment for many if this is true and I can't even fathom it.
In addition, what's going on with the holiday lights in the gardens? One half has been well lit, almost garishly so, and the western side has minimal lights. Last night, the west side of the gardens had no lights at all.
These, of course, are my opinions only. I was very sad about the entire affair this year as I always looked forward to it with child-like enthusiasm. I can only hope that meetings have been held, or will be held, and things get put back to where they were when we had a truly gorgeous, magical, fun, entertaining, and community-unifying Carefree Christmas Festival where people from all around the Valley and state, as well as those from out of state, visited.
Thanks for listening.
