The official Ribbon Cutting for the new Carefree fire truck and brush truck took place at the Carefree Firehouse on Friday, January 26th, and Herbert was there to photograph it. Below is the link to his photos.

The event was supposed to start at 1:30, but the first speaker started early and it just kept rolling, so when Lyn and I got there, Mayor Crane was just finishing his speech. That wrapped up the speaking segment of the program, but he sent us a copy of his speech, which you can read it below.
"Good afternoon and welcome to this special day. Dedicating this new fire truck and brush truck is a BIG DEAL. It is a proud day for Carefree.
"These trucks symbolize Carefree’s commitment to the safety and well-being of our community. They demonstrate our commitment to maintaining a high level of emergency response readiness. We owe that to you - our residents - and to our fire fighters - to have the best tools available. We’ve been working toward this day for well over a year – writing the specifications, ordering, waiting for delivery and then outfitting.
"A big thank you goes out to our Rural Metro fire fighters who helped design and specify these trucks. Thanks to our Town Administrator, Gary Neiss, for managing the processes from start to finish. And thank you to the Salt River Pima – Maricopa Indian Community for providing the generous $177,000 grant making the purchase of this $250,000 brush truck possible. Give them all a big round of applause!
"With our Rural Metro fire fighters operating and caring for these trucks, this engine and brush truck will serve us well and keep us safe for upwards of the next 20 years!
"Engine 821 is nearly a $1 million dollar investment. Is a state-of-the-art Engine equipped with the latest technology. It is designed to meet our unique terrain. And Brush Truck 823 will better access hard to get to desert locations and make for quicker responses to wildland fires. I could go through the fire engine specifications, but they likely do not mean much to most of you or me. What they do mean is you can sleep better at night.
"After the ribbon is cut and after the traditional pushing of the engine into the bay, take a minute to appreciate these impressive trucks and thank the men who make them run. I am glad to see all of you. Thank you."
Mayor John Crane
