The Thunderbird Artists Carefree shows on January 15th-17th and March 12th-14th are still scheduled to take place, barring a state or federal shut-down order. The street closures were approved at the October 6th Council meeting.

The November agenda item was informational only.
Thunderbird Artists has worked with the Arizona Department of Health to generate Covid precautions. Masks or face shields will be required for all artists, volunteers and patrons. Volunteers handling money will wear gloves which will be changed hourly. Complimentary disposable masks will be available at the entrances for those who do not have a mask or a face shield. Covid rules will be announced every half hour over the Pavilion PA system and additional security personnel will be hired to politely enforce the rules.
Patrons with Thunderbird VIP cards will be admitted early (9 AM) to minimize crowds and admission lines. The wine/micro brewery and food vendor elements have been eliminated so there is no reason for patrons to remove their masks. Thunderbird Artists is working with the local restaurants to fill in the gaps for food and beverages. There will be hand sanitizing stations throughout the event. Vendors are encouraged to bring hand sanitizers to their booths and to utilize UV sanitizing wands. Thunderbird Artists will provide sanitizer refills. Their staff members will clean all common areas hourly.
The ground in front of the common areas will have 6' apart stickers placed on the ground, and the Pavilion will have socially distanced seating for the musical entertainment. There will be 10' breaks between the booths. Vendors are to remain within their booth spaces and should limit patrons within their booths to 4-6 when possible. Vendors with enclosed booths are encouraged to have a flap opening in the back for air circulation and they should step back out of the booth when patrons are in the booth.
30 patrons will be admitted at each entrance on the hour. Entrances and exits will be physically separated. Typical attendance is 1000-1200 people. They will try to limit it to 300-400, but it is difficult to monitor that accurately. Patrons will be asked to limit their stay to 2 hours. Without the draw for wine enthusiasts, the attendance is expected to be down.
The event information booth has been eliminated. Signs with maps and Covid rules will be placed throughout the event. The signs will include QR codes so information can be viewed online. Patrons will be encouraged to walk in single directions, on the right side of the street. Patrons who are not feeling well are asked not to come to the shows.
Shows held around the Valley have been monitored to see the precautions that have been taken, and the "best practices" have been incorporated into the upcoming Thunderbird shows. Councilman Gene Orrico and Vice Mayor John Crane congratulated Carefree Economic Development Director Steve Prokopek and Denise Colter from Thunderbird Artists for generating a great plan. Gary Neiss said they would keep the Council updated with any information that could cause changes to occur.
