A recent letter published in Carefree Truth asked the question as to what happen to the funds raised for the park if they are not successful in winning the property at auction.
Attached is a column that ran in the Foothills Focus a few months ago. In it Wendy Mattes stated the following regarding the use of cash donations if the attempt to purchase the 48 acres of State Land is unsuccessful:
“For the cash donations … we would follow IRS regulations,” she said. “If someone has made a cash donation, then they get the tax deduction immediately, so we can’t just give the money back. And so what the IRS requires is that the funding go to another 501(c)(3).”
A fair question would be who will get the money and who decides? I wonder if the folks donating are aware of this? Seems odd coming from a group that constantly hammers the town on transparency and information request. https://www.thefoothillsfocus.com/news/nonprofit-formed-to-preserve-land-for-park-in-carefree/article_92ce8e38-6866-11ee-a6d1-33dc5ff81a50.html

I just wanted to reach out, wish you well, and share a nice little video that one of our Graduate Student Interns produced for our show. It was a nice surprise, but does a good job of summarizing in 2 minutes the type of work our team does. Thank you, as always, for the opportunity!!

Famous sportscaster Dick Stockton was a guest on our first national show. He and his wife have a house in Carefree and one in Boca Raton, Florida.

I have attached all the info I have for the Town of Carefree & MCLEF AZ 18th Annual Golf Tournament. I think we have a great opportunity to present the Medal Of Honor "MOH" recipients and the Town Of Carefree!
Prior to departure to Handlebar J on Thursday, April 25th. At appx 3:00, we walk the four MOH guys from the Hampton Inn to the VETERANS MEMORIAL 150 yards away. John Crane, as our Mayor, and as a Navy Veteran, will speak to these four MOH heroes. Once he finishes, we will have a "limo" drive the MOH guys to Handlebar J escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders (and Legion Riders...?).
I have included Steve "Hoop" Hooper in this email. Hoop is retired FBI and now teaches Cyber Security at Embry Riddle, Hoop is the Chairman of MCLEF AZ Chapter.
