Good Day:
My name is Dr. Michael J. Krahe and I am writing this to you to ask for you to consider signing theNonpartisan Nomination Petition form in support of my re-election to Carefree town council. I am a running for my third term. In order to sign the form, you must be a registered voter in Carefree.
Given our current national health care situation gathering signatures by talking directly with Carefree residents and securing signatures face to face, as you can imagine, has become a significant challenge. Lyn Hitchon has been kind enough to assist me in gathering signatures through her Carefree Truth network.
As a member of town council, I have assisted Mayor Les Peterson and my fellow council members in the following accomplishments:
· Developing an integrated dependable water system for all Carefree residents. The acquisition and integration of approximately 1,000 Carefree residents into the existing Carefree Water System is well on its way. Binding arbitration has been scheduled for July and the process to disconnect and connect into the Carefree Water distribution system will begin thereafter as soon as possible. The completion of this much needed initiative will significantly increase the quality and dependability of water service for these Carefree residents.
· Comprehensive street maintenance program. Over the past year, approximately 40% of the Town’s public streets have been treated with a fiber micro-surface which helps to seal the existing cracks and creates a more uniform appearance to the street surface. The remaining public streets are scheduled for the same treatment. However, it is important to note that due to some of the impending water improvement projects in several of the remaining neighborhoods, these street improvements will be coordinated with the aforementioned water improvements.
· Improving existing Town Center pedestrian crosswalks. The Town commissioned a study to evaluate new technology and methods to further improve the safety of the existing pedestrian crosswalks near the Town Center. The traffic engineer will present his findings later this winter. Many of these crosswalk improvements are anticipated to be completed in the next fiscal year.
· Traffic enforcement. The Town continues to work with our traffic and public safety provider, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) to ensure appropriate levels of traffic enforcement; however, the Town continues to receive complaints from concerned residents especially during peak times such as Bike Week. Following recent discussions with MCSO and the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, plans for additional police presence and enforcement of the traffic laws in Carefree are being finalized for this peak period. In addition, the Town is beginning the process to investigate options to supplement MCSO’s traffic enforcement through proven traffic calming techniques such as photo enforcement. Our collective goal is to provide calmer and safer streets and address the bad actors adversely impacting our quality of life.
· Evolving the Town’s current marketing focus to highlight economic development. Over the past five years, the Town has developed and implemented broadly appealing fairs and festivals to increase awareness of Carefree and help build traffic in downtown Carefree. This approach was the necessary first step to gain additional exposure to the Town’s business district. The Town will now decrease it focus upon large, Town driven events and work more directly with our current businesses to help them build their businesses as well as attract new businesses into Carefree. The Hampton Inn under construction is one example of the successes being realized in this area.
· Improving Emergency/Fire capabilities. The Town is in the process of preparing specifications and bid documents to begin the process to replace the Town’s aging fire truck. In addition, the Town has and continues to replace older, deteriorating equipment which supports our first responders.
· Wayfinding signage master plan. The Town has begun the process to hire a signage master planner/designer with the goal to have a uniform signage plan that makes it easier for people unfamiliar with the area to find restaurants, businesses and key attractions.
If you believe I have earned your vote and you wish to support me again in representing you please completethe attached form and return it to me via email tomjkrahjephd@mac.com. My cell 814-881-7020 should you have any questions.
If you wish to mail the form to me kindly mail to Dr. Michael Krahe PO BOX 1380 Carefree, AZ 85377
All signatures are due to town hall no later than April 6, 2020.
Arizona Chief Enforcement Officer of Elections Cory Lorick has advised that signatures obtained via electronic means are appropriate particularly given the current health care situation.
Finally, please retain the original for your records.
Sincerely:
Michael J. Krahe, Ph.D.

(Lyn's note: Mike is behind in collecting his necessary signatures because he was out of state helping his brother who had a stroke. He is back in town now, but is playing catch-up. Because of the virus, it is difficult to collect signatures at the Carefree PO, the place most are collected. People are understandably reluctant to come close to others. So Mike is looking for alternative ways to get his signatures. This is one of them. The form is included in the email body and is also included as an attachment, so use whichever is easier for you. Thanks.)

Hi Lyn:
Thank you for sending. We heard in a video of the Israeli Minister of Defense, of all places, that once a person has the coronavirus and recovers, they are immune. Any truth to this?
Best regards,
John Crane
(Lyn's note: This immunity is true of all known viruses. There is no reason to believe this one is any different. In some cases, people have supposedly had it again after having had it once, but those cases have been relapses of those not completely over it, not a repeat of the illness after full recovery.)
Excellent info (though I admit I needed to look up some medical definitions!). I think your next issue should be filled with spring blooms...I bet Herb can dig up a few. Here are a few to kick things off... we must not ignore the joys of spring! Stay well!

Thank you Lyn and Herbert for your factual sharing of information.
You truly are the Carefree Truth. So refreshing these days.
M. Kolb
(Lyn's note: There is so much misinformation out there that we figured people could use some that is purely factual.)
Amen. God Bless you, and thank you for your authenticity.
Thank you Lyn and Herbie. Very interesting. Great to see factual information supported by real data.

Thank you so much for sharing this vital information with me and my family!

May I forward the Carefree Truth info?
Don Cassanova
(Lyn's note: Absolutely. That's why we put it out there. I sent it to a lot of people who are not on the CFT email list. There's so much funky info out there that even though the Up-To-Date article is long and fairly dry, it's all there and is accurate.)
Thank you for sharing this information, Lyn. Stay well.

Thank you, Lyn, for sharing this valuable information. Hopefully it will be re-sent multiple times so everyone can read this valuable information and take the proper precautionary measures to stay well. Have shared it with several people already today and all were glad to have accurate information from someone who knows what he’s talking about. Many thanks, again, for posting this, Lyn.

Thanks Lyn. That’s good stuff. My son-in-law is a pediatrician and we set up my portable white vinyl 10 x 20 garage behind his office to examine people presenting with possible symptoms rather than have them contaminate the office and staff. Everyone appreciates this service and only 1 person has tested positive so far. You never know. I am of a mindset that I will enjoy every day of my life until I have real cause not to.
Walter Smith
Thank you so much. I am having issues with businesses closing down and people losing jobs etc. Understand the disease but I am still not sure that the closures were needed. I guess having gone through the epidemics we have had in the past like H1N1 (which I contracted and was quarantined with) just skeptical. Where does Herb stand on that aspect?Laurie Palace
(Lyn's note: We too were somewhat skeptical, for the same reasons you express. But a big redeeming feature is that it could keep medical services from being overwhelmed in a short period. If all resources are dedicated to taking care of those with the critical symptoms of Corona, what happens to people who have a heart attack or stroke, or are in a bad accident? It helps to keep it a gentle curve rather than a spike. We're doing videos for some of our favorite restaurants so they can talk about what they are offering, since many are doing curbside take-out at this time. The 2 Italian places in Carefree that we've done so far are in steady touch with their friends and family back in Italy. Alberto said Milano has soldiers patrolling the streets to keep people in their homes. Frederico said the cemeteries are filling up so fast that there is not room to bury people. Both know many who are sick and/or dying. Italy is a real mess. What they had to say grabbed our attention! But they felt the U.S. is containing it before it's too late, so even though their restaurants are suffering, both are in agreement with this protocol.)
WOW! That is quite a report!!! Fascinating. I’m self isolating since my return from Israel last Monday. Managed to get a United flight form Tel Aviv to San Fran. 15hr flight and 300 + passengers!!! Plan for the worst and hope for the best. When food stores run out of food and gun shops see a run on their inventories it might be too late to think about being prepared. If you’ve been a camper, hunter, fisher and an outdoor person all you life you probably already have everything in place or know where to get it AND NOBODY IS GOING TO TAKE IT FROM YOU.

No use Mr. Gimson and me both worrying! I, too, worked in sales before hotels had their own sales departments or it was getting popular. I worked for Beverly Hills Hilton, Santa Barbara Biltmore and many more high end hotels. So we have something in common on that point.
Mr. Gimson reporting that the hotel and condos have much larger land space..that is exactly my point. It will be over whelming. Also,
buying a million dollar condo adjacent to week-end, weekly, and monthly rentals condos is a common sense decision not our work experience.
