At the Carefree Water Company (CWC) Board of Directors meeting, the CWC General Manager, Greg Crossman, explained that the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) settlement agreement transferred the Central Arizona Project (CAP) water rights for the Carefree Service Area (CSA) from the Town of Cave Creek to the Town of Carefree United Community Facilities District (UCFD). The amount of CAP water transferred was 378 Acre Feet (AF). 299 AF are currently being used. 79 AF will provide for future demand. The CWC holds the CAP subcontract.
Resolution 2021-04 is a legal housekeeping measure that transfers the water rights from the UCFD to the CWC. This would allow the CWC to amend the current CAP subcontract to increase the limit received from 1300 AF to 1678 AF per year.
Carefree Town Attorney Michael Wright said it is important to note that Cave Creek is on board with all of this and with the documentation to support it. A joint Carefree/Cave Creek letter is being generated and will be sent to all the regulatory agencies to move this amendment forward. Chairman Les Peterson thanked Cave Creek for its cooperation.
