Carefree resident and show organizer Les Hardy was unable to attend the meeting, so Vice Mayor John Crane presented the information about the show and the request for a street closure of one lane in each direction on Cave Creek Road from Mule Train to Pima Road from 6 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, March 7th, for event parking. The Arizona Rangers, working under a licensed police officer, will manage traffic and the Foothills Caring Corps will provide shuttle service between the parked cars and the show which will be hosted by the Sky Ranch airport.
It will be a static show featuring approximately 80 antique cars and 10 antique planes that will be on display from 8 AM until noon on Saturday, March 7th. The Wheels & Wings website shows photos of some of the beautiful cars that will be on display.
This homegrown event was an outgrowth of a car show that Nancy Keller did last spring. Les Hardy came to the Town with an idea, and he ran with it. He has an impressive list of sponsors which can be seen on his website. He is asking nothing from the Town other than some electronic, marketing which is being done, and help with the street closure. Vice Mayor Crane said it will be a great show, so come on out and see it!
Councilman Gene Orrico noted that the show is already filled and no new applications are being accepted. Mayor Les Peterson said it is off to a great start and they are already talking about next year. Councilwoman Cheryl Kroyer added that Wheels & Wings is listed on the Carefree rack card of scheduled events. Councilman Vince D'Aliesio said the JV Sports Show would be broadcasting there that morning. Mayor Peterson noted that Mr. D'Aliesio is one of the announcers on the JV Sports Show on Saturday mornings.
