Lyn,
I would appreciate it if you would publish the article on speeding below.
Thank you.
Mayor Les Peterson
Speeding in Carefree can have severe Personal Safety and Financial Consequences!
Speeding throughout the Carefree area is on the rise. Speeding has become more prevalent than a few isolated drivers driving a few miles per hour in excess of posted speed limits. Some residents have even reported an aggravated case of speeding, that of two cars racing each other down Cave Creek Road by Sky Ranch Airport. Many residents believe that excessive speeding on Carefree’s roadways is causing an unsafe situation which can lead to serious injury or worse.
The Town cannot ignore this type of a situation which endangers the safety of residents. Accordingly, we have requested the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office to increase their focus upon reducing speeding throughout Carefree, and to place particular emphasis upon patrolling the major roadways - including Cave Creek Road, Tom Darlington, Carefree Highway and Stagecoach Pass.
We are encouraging all residents to be mindful of and abide by the posted speed limits throughout Carefree. In addition to the safety concerns, any speeding violation for which a speeding ticket is issued has a minimum fine of $244, and it may also entail points assessed against the person’s driver’s license (3 points are assessed for a speeding violation) and notification to their insurance carrier. Fines and other penalties will increase substantially depending on how many miles over the posted speed limit a person is found responsible for traveling.
It makes good sense to abide by the posted speed limit - both personally and financially. Please drive accordingly.
Loved the pics!!
