Lost dog
Lola is a black and white short haired Border Collie mix. If you see her, please call Molly at 602-214-7067 immediately. She is very shy, so do not try to approach her or call out to her. A copy of the orange signs with her photo that have been placed on street sign posts around Carefree and Cave Creek is attached. A trap has been set up by HARRT, professionals who are working with Molly to catch Lola, in Sentinel Rock, which is the most recent place she was spotted.
Those of you who live in SR, please keep an eye out for Lola. This is the same dog I sent out the email about shortly after midnight on the 7th. We were the first ones to spot her but she ran away when Herbert tried to call her, not realizing she was so shy. She has been traveling around quite a bit, but is back in our neighborhood again now. Fingers crossed!

From COINS: The following information has been assembled by Council members Stephen Hatcher and Michael Krahe to better inform Carefree residents about preparing for Wildfires.
Wildfires – Lessons Learned
Indeed, this wildfire season has had a dramatic start. The season is being fueled by the above average rains this past winter and the resulting proliferation of the nonnative weeds and grasses. As the summer heat sets in, these dried weeds and grasses combined with the swirling winds within our desert foothills area provide for active and dangerous ingredients contributing to these recent wildfires.
There are a number of lessons to share with the recent wildfires:
Cheryl Kroyer certainly has my vote for Council re-election. She understands our community as well as anyone and is my go-to anytime I need the perspective of someone that is very objective in their analysis.

Wow! Thank you! So grateful for our amazing firefighters and supportive community. Stay safe.

- Those homeowners that have cut down these weeds and grasses on their properties and formed a defensible space of 30 feet around their structures have mitigated any serious damage resulting from these fires. If you have not already done so, please cut these weeds and grasses on your property and form this defensible space to protect your residence. Additionally, those homeowners whom have a flat roof should check to ensure any debris that may collect on the roof is regularly removed to prevent wildfire embers from igniting the structure.
- When a wildfire occurs within the community, local resources will immediately respond with aid from nearby jurisdictions. Both the Maricopa County Emergency Management and Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management will respond with air support when its determined that the fire cannot be contained due to terrain and winds. From that point, either Emergency Management or Department of Forestry and Fire Manager take control of fire operations, all public updates regarding the response will come from the respective governing agency.
- Please do not use drones during aerial operations. This compromises the safety of the aerial support and will result in potential criminal citations against the drone operator.
- When evacuation orders are made by Emergency Management a reverse 911 message (a call to your telephone) as well as other redundant messages via text and email will be distributed by incident control/operations manager. Please carefully listen to directions within the message. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office will assist in the evacuation. Please place pets on leashes or within pet crates during evacuation and if you have limited access within your neighborhood please ensure you permit sufficient amount of time to evacuate so you and your family do not become trapped.
- The attached June 2019 presentation from Rural Metro and Emergency Management outlines procedures you should take to prepare for such evacuation. Copy and paste this link into your web browser: http://carefreetruth2.com/carefree-truth-763.html
- If you should have solar energy system or a generator on your residence please shut off these systems before you evacuate. This ensures power does not feed back into the electrical grid after electrical lines are de-energized which could result in electrocution from compromised lines.
- Be prepared to be evacuated from your residence for a period of time if a fire burns areas within your neighborhood. Even after the fire appears to be completely out, it may still be smoldering under the surface, a quick spark up from a breeze can cause a compromised propane tank to explode. Additionally, there may be exposed electrical lines, gas lines or unsafe structures. The first responders must try to mitigate these dangers prior to reopening these neighborhoods and therefore, there is typically a delay before one can reentered a fire damaged area.
Cheryl Kroyer certainly has my vote for Council re-election. She understands our community as well as anyone and is my go-to anytime I need the perspective of someone that is very objective in their analysis.
