Councilman Mike Krahe: Dr. Krahe said he is from back East and his kids are grown, but he went to Dr. Seuss Day and read to the kids, which he enjoyed. He has had the good fortune to connect with Dr. Burdick on other things as well. "I have developed a very keen appreciation and thankfulness for what you folks do. It's amazing."
Sydney Myers-Lenz was unable to attend. Dr. Patty Jensen accepted the pin on her behalf.
Lone Mountain Elementary School
Sydney Myers-Lenz – Assistant to the Site Administrator
Nominated by Dr. Patty Jensen, LMES Principal
"Sydney has been a champion for students, families and teachers at LMES for many years, but this year she has stepped up during difficult transitions to provide a calm and stable presence. She has trained new staff members, established new procedures and systems to organize everyone, learned a new position, and picked up missing pieces. She has done all of these things with a smile and a fun sense of humor that keeps work fun."
"Sydney is positive, listens patiently, loves to learn, advocates for kids and sees problems as opportunities for growth. She inspires others to be their best and keep a smile."

Councilwoman Cheryl Kroyer:
Sonoran Trails Middle School
Don Larson – Athletic Director/Physical Education Teacher
Nominated by Bill Dolezal, STMS Principal
"Don exemplifies what it means to be dedicated to your school and your students. Rather than ever wait to be asked to lend a hand, Don just jumps right to work. That work might look like trimming an overgrown tree; it might look like clearing a cross country path; it might look like pulling a student aside who needs help and mentoring them; it might look like leading lunch duty; it might look like running the elementary cross country meets. In other words, Don does whatever it takes to make STMS and CCUSD the best it can be."
"And we have not yet even mentioned his teaching and his coaching. Don's classes are always on the move, his students are interacting with each other and most importantly, he and his students support and cheer for one another. His leadership in class and coaching brings out the best in athletic competition and teamwork. His dynamic personality contributes to his elective classes always being full, and of course Don is always willing to make room for one or two more boys that want to take PE. Don has developed relationships of trust and respect with his students. He therefore manages his classes with ease, calmness and a focused sense of purpose." "We would be remiss not to include his duties as athletic director as another way he contributes to the school and community. Our student athletes are well taken care of on the field and in the classroom because of Don's diligence. There are no better facilities in our league and no more successful programs at other schools. Don helps in the classroom by regular grade checks and pulling the students that need to take care of their classroom job before it gets too late."
"We believe success at Cactus Shadows flows from the feeder programs at Sonoran Trails - and Don is our chef."
