On Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, our country will remember those who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of our nation. The Town of Carefree Memorial Day program is returning to the Cave Creek Cemetery in Carefree, just south of the Cave Creek Road / Pima Road intersection to honor those men and women.
Please join us at 8 a.m. for our one hour program. Boy Scout Troop 603 of Cave Creek will present and retrieve the colors. Two US veteran speakers will join us – Capt. Winnie Fritz, a US Army, Vietnam War nurse, and Sgt Rick Gregory, a US Army, Afghanistan War Airborne Infantry Mortarman. Col. Tom Kirk, retired USAF and Vietnam War POW will lead the pledge of allegiance. US Air Force pilot and Vietnam War veteran, Desert Hills Presbyterian Church elder, Dave Hulbert, will deliver the invocation and two Cactus Shadows High School students will sing the National Anthem and America the Beautiful.
Parking will be available in The Heritage assisted living center parking lot and the Pima Norte garden office parking lot across the street. Beginning at 7:30 a.m. MCSO will assist those walking across Pima Road from the parking lot to the cemetery. And, at 7:30 The Heritage will offer van service. The Black Mountain Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will serve light refreshments. Veteran’s graves will have been marked with US flags by the Tribute Riders. Please remember, this is a pioneer cemetery. The wearing of closed-toed shoes is a must.
I hope you can join us.
