Annual Fire Hydrant Exercising
Beginning Wednesday, January 15th and continuing through February, firefighters from Rural Metro Fire and field staff from the Carefree Water Company are conducting their annual inspection and exercising of all the fire hydrants in the Town of Carefree. They will begin on the eastern side of Carefree and work their way west.
This annual inspection ensures that all the fire hydrants are functioning as designed and makes the firefighters familiar with the location of the hydrants. Please drive carefully through the wet roads and safely around employees.
Please have patience as we may temporarily have to close a road in order to flow a hydrant. Use caution to protect your first responders as they work to protect you. If you have any questions or concerns you may call the Carefree Water Company at (480)488-9100.
Dear Neighbors:
While many of you subscribe to the Town's e-newsletter, please bear in mind that even though the e-newsletter says "all of the fire hydrants in Carefree", I confirmed with the Carefree Water Company that it will only be those hydrants in Carefree that are served by the Carefree Water Company. It is also my understanding that Cave Creek Water has not been exercising, or testing hydrants of Carefree homes served by Cave Creek Water, which includes Canyon Creek Estates.
The most recent information about the Town of Carefree relating to the acquisition of the 526 Carefree accounts on Cave Creek Water is that arbitration will start in July 2020. To the best of my knowledge, following the acquisition, and subsequent disconnection from Cave Creek Water and re-connection of Carefree Water, that Carefree Water will then undertake several tasks, to include flushing of all lines, inspection of all fire hydrants with repair of any problems, along with replacement of all water meters.

Somebody somewhere supposedly said that simply waking up in the morning was reason enough to celebrate being alive another day. Well, it’s hard to argue with that logic. But, occasionally it’s kinda nice to have something else to celebrate other than then the fact that you are still breathing.
So, just in case you need another reason to enjoy today, you might want to consider celebrating the 85th birthday of the King of Rock n Roll...Elvis Presley... just in case someone tells you that Elvis is “In the Building” today....

He was a country boy in the city
Standing on stage alone
Somebody said this boy could raise the dead
And have 'em dancing in the aisles
It didn't take long to be noticed
Must've been that southern charm
Somebody said this boy will own this town
With just his pretty boy smile
Elvis is in the building... somebody shouted out loud
Elvis is in the building...pretty soon there was a crowd
Everyone talking....nobody listening...when he looked around
Elvis was in the building and then he was gone
Somebody said fame went to his head
But it never mattered much anyway
When he picked up his guitar
You’d forget where you are
When the music started playing
Your hips started swaying
You knew every word of every song
So you just sang right along
Elvis is in the building... somebody shouted out loud
Elvis is in the building...pretty soon there was a crowd
Everyone talking....nobody listening...when he looked around
Elvis was in the building and then he was gone
Now before I go you need to know
The southern boy was the King
Rock n Roll was born in his soul
All he had to do was sing
But Elvis left the building...he walked out the back door
Elvis left the building...when we all wanted more
Everyone talking....nobody listening...one last look around
Elvis left the building and then he was gone
Positive, good report from the Mayor!

Dear Mayor Les Peterson:
Thank you for your State of the Town message. As one of the Cave Creek water users, it was good to see that things are moving albeit slowly.
Living just off N Cave Creek Road, I am fully supportive of the efforts to improve the situation during Bike Week. I would have been a little happier if I had read more about noise than ‘traffic calming’.
Please do not ask me for accurate statistics, but I have heard on many occasions that over 75% of Harley Davidson motorcycles have non-original-equipped exhaust systems, most of which had baffles removed. I used to see the occasional MCSO vehicle equipped with a decibel-reading microphone. In my days on the Town Council (2011-13) we used to get monthly reports from MCSO with number of violations issued by the deputies assigned to Carefree and numbers from the Cave Creek station. I do not ever recall seeing any citations for violations of Carefree’s noise ordinance.
Perhaps someone could install a video camera on the north east corner the intersection of N Cave Creek Road and Carefree Highway. It is not unusual to see a pack of bikes going east on Carefree Highway and turning north on to N Cave Creek Road. Once the green arrow left turn light comes on, it is as if they are in a funeral procession, with dozens continuing to turn way after the light has turned red. If there was a photo-radar unit, with another camera on the southwest corner, they could have a field day!
