"Thomas Jefferson said a democracy is dependent on an informed citizenry. I don't care whether it sounds corny or not. It's the truth." -Jim Lehrer

The consent agenda contained an approval for the purchase of 3 new vehicles to replace 3 older vehicles. The replacement vehicles would go to the Building Safety Department, the Code Enforcement Department, and the Public Works Department.
Councilman Stephen Hatcher asked what happens to the 3 vehicles being replaced. Gary Neiss explained that 2 of them would go onto the Public Government Auction website, per Arizona Revised Statute. One will be kept for use by the Town Engineer. The proceeds from the 2 that go to auction would be used to help offset the cost of the new vehicles. Used vehicles are going for top dollar now. Mayor Les Peterson noted that the purchases are made under government cost determination, so are purchased very efficiently.

Kandace Contreras explained that up to $25,000 had been budgeted for the new employee computers and workstations necessary for the majority of the staff. These would run Windows 10, with updated virus protection needed to maintain a safe environment for emails, etc.
Councilwoman Cheryl Kroyer exclaimed, "About time. It's like working on stone tablets with chisels." Vice Mayor John Crane asked if the software needed to run on the more advanced system is included. Mrs. Contreras replied that it includes everything updated to run on Windows 10. Mayor Les Peterson noted that there are no upgrades or repairs available for the machines currently in use. Vice Mayor Crane agreed that it was high time to replace them. The computers have been in use since 2011.
The motion to approve the purchase of new computers and workstations was unanimously approved.
