JOHN CRANE FOR CAREFREE COUNCIL
As a Carefree Town Council candidate, it has been an honor to read the kind words of endorsement from Carefree Mayor Les Peterson, Councilwoman Cheryl Kroyer and Councilman candidate Tony Geiger and now to be endorsed by the Scottsdale Association of Realtors. I very much enjoy serving the Town of Carefree as your Vice Mayor and hope to have the opportunity to continue serve you.
You can count on me to continue to immerse myself in the community. Our local government is here for our citizens. I have found nothing to be more fulfilling than managing our Memorial Day and Veterans Day events, developing strong relationships with our 501c3 organizations, speaking with many of our small businesses and volunteer organizations to help them understand the tools available so they can better navigate COVID-19, facilitating or acting as a liaison for the Carefree Garden Seminar Series, the Veteran Memorial in Carefree project, and the Little Free Library…bringing value to Carefree residents and fostering communication between citizens and their government.
Looking ahead, I intend to:
- Bring safe and reliable water at a fair rate to all Carefree residents,
- Encourage economic development within the Town core and the northeast corner of Carefree Highway and Cave Creek Road which will bring value to our citizens,
- Strengthen our sales tax base to avoid imposing a property tax,
- Push the Maricopa County Sheriff services, for which we contract, to address our security and traffic needs.
With your support I will continue to strive to make Carefree a great place to live and do business. Thank you for your trust and confidence and your vote.

Hi Lyn
Hope you had a great 4th. Thank you so much for keeping everyone in the loop. We really appreciate it. Thank you so much.

Keep up the GREAT job you do.

Lyn:
Great reporting as usual. My only comment about water is that CAP water gets to Cave Creek’s treatment facility via a “concrete-asbestos pipeline and pumping stations that are over 30 years old”.
Arthur Gimson
You mentioned you were going to write about the opponents to the water company issue. Maybe there is a way to let them know that I, as a citizen of Carefree, was not happy that I had to tear apart my shower this morning cause there were pebbles in the shower head deposited there from the water company equipment. Very frustrating. UGH.

Lyn, we recently had a problem with our waste line in Sedona. Neither I nor the plumber (100 bucks an hour) could find the access point on our property. We contacted the city and they had a drawing showing precisely where the access point was located. Saved us lots of time and money. Who do I contact to see if Carefree has the same information? Don't need it right now but when we do, it will be too late. Having just witnessed the Miller's waste line issue, it made me realize I have no idea where our access point is. Thanks for any guidance you can provide. I couldn't find a logical link choice on the Carefree website so took a wild guess but thought you'd know exactly who I should request the info from.
Harry L.
(Lyn's note: Carefree's sewer customers are serviced by Liberty Utilities, not by the Town of Carefree. It's a private waste water company, which is why you weren't finding anything on Carefree's website. Liberty has a local office in the garden office complex near the 4 way stop sign at Cave Creek Road and Tom Darlington Drive. It's the one before the complex with the medical offices. They can probably help you, or direct you to someone who can.

ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE KIWANIS CLUB OF CAREFREE
For the First Time in the History of the Kiwanis Carefree Club... "we had not met in three months" were the emotional opening remarks of Club President, Mike Poppenwimer... never had it been so long since our Kiwanis Club not met, but the Covid 19 caused this lapse in Members getting together since March 11th. But even with the Member Meetings closed down, many of the Kiwanis Support Programs continued as the needs in the community were acute. Scholarships were still being awarded and other contributions were made to charitable causes on an "as needed" basis.
Mike went on to say how great it was that our Club's Program and Hospitality Committee, led by Joyce Jordan, was able to pull together this outdoor venue meeting. Forty-Seven Members were able to attend after a very successful emailing of notices and a personal call from President Mike to all members inviting them to this Wednesday, June 17th meeting at 9am at the Sanderson Pavilion in Carefree. President Mike passionate remarks included how wonderful it was to see so many of our member friends together again... all wearing masks so we barely knew them.
The program started with our invocation by Canon Dart, followed by our traditional patriotic song led by Song Master Ted Dimon (without his personal tuning orchestra), followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mike first introduced Carefree Vice Mayor, John Crane who talked about how wonderful it was to see a large group of people taking advantage of this Carefree gathering place again and thanked Kiwanis for coming. The new President, Ms Kimberly Jack was introduced as was the new President Elect, Ms Joyce Jordan, both of whom will be taking office in October.
Mike then introduced, Steve Morse, Membership Chairman, who spoke about a confidential dues support program being available to members who might be experiencing a financial setback due to the Covid 19 Virus. He said, "Members support Members"! Just contact Steve if you are experiencing a financial situation precluding you from making your Kiwanis Club Membership payments.
Then Mike introduced our featured speaker, Ms. Raye Gail, from the YMCA who provided us with an update as to what crisis actions her staff had to take when the Covid 19 Virus impacted on the YMCA and it was forced to shut down. However, the "Y" is now open and already back up to just over 50% of their former member traffic... which was great news as the "Y" is a key element in our community which our Kiwanis Carefree Chapter has supported from the beginning.
Mike then invited all to partake in the Coffee, donated by Venue's Café and donuts provided by Kiwanis which were difficult to consume through the masks.
