September, 11, 2001. Hard to believe it's been 18 years! Bob Jenkins, a local Carefree resident and business owner, was on the 39th floor of WTC-1 (the North Tower) when the first plane hit the building. Bob has offered to make a speech and recall the events of that nefarious and infamous day in our history.
Please feel free to join us.

(Lyn's note: Below are pictures from Bob Jenkin's dad Lew's 100th birthday party last Sunday. Lew was a speaker at the 2017 Carefree Veteran's Day event. He spoke about his experiences in WWII without even looking down at his notes. He is amazing! A video link to the speech is included below the photos from his birthday party. It is worth taking the time to click on it and listen.)
Lew Jenkins celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday, August 25th. Here are a few pictures Herbert took at his party.

Thanks Lyn,
I appreciate your continuing to have the ad about drivers. We are desperate.

I just learned something and thought I’d pass it along. We built our house a little over 20 years ago and have been diligent about cleaning the lint from our gas dryer and having the exhaust vent on the roof checked for blockage every so often. Connie noted that the dryer was cycling more often than normal so we called a tech. What he found was that over the years the lint sticks in the vent pipe going to the roof and that constricts the flow to the roof. Humidity, heat and static electricity works against the lint getting to the roof vent and causes the dryer to lose efficiency. He said he sees it all the time and is the major issue when called on a gas drying malfunction.
He recommended a guy that deals with this issue and we had him come out. You would not believe the lint that he reamed out of the vent pipe. He is a fireman and does this on the side and he cites this issue in numerous dryer caused fires. Apparently the pipe gets clogged to the degree that the heat will build up and so forth.
I just took advice from the tech and called Matthew Brown owner of Northstar Dryer Vent Cleaning at 480-589-3817. I am sure there are others that will do the same service. This guy was timely and got the job done. His charge was $70 for cleaning.
